The Bad Brückenau Bavarian Chamber Orchestra

Since it was founded in 1979, the Bad Brückenau Bavarian Chamber Orchestra (BKO) has acquired a specific profile with innovative projects. The orchestra is made up of outstanding professional musicians from central Europe, who frequently join up for new projects as orchestras and as chamber music ensembles. The fostering of regional musical traditions is counterbalanced by unconventional performances of contemporary music and exciting projects on the borders between musical genres. A particular focus is on the communication of music, in cooperation with schools and other educational institutions.

The Bad Brückenau Bavarian Chamber Orchestra organises many of our series of concerts, such as:

The BKO worked and still works with numerous names who are exceptional in their own way, including Morton Feldman, Dave Brubeck, Jacques Loussier, Gerhard Polt, Peter Schreier, Mikis Theodorakis, Arvo Pärt, Karl-Heinz Stockhausen and Pierre Boulez. Recently it has also been making more and more of a name for itself in the classical segment, as witnessed by the concert projects with Albrecht Mayer, Daniel Müller-Schott, Wolfram Christ, Radovan Vlatkovic, Sergej Nakariakov, Nils Mönkemeyer and other renowned contemporary solo artists. Johannes Moesus has been principal conductor of the BKO since 2012.

In the 35 years of its history so far, the orchestra has won the Bavarian State Prize, the Friedrich Bauer Prize, the Siemens Cultural Sponsorship Award and the Cultural Prize of the District of Lower Franconia. Besides its own series of concerts in Bad Brückenau and performances in southern Bavaria, the BKO also plays on established concert stages in Germany and throughout Europe. Radio productions and CD recordings also confirm its high artistic level, its tonal culture and its enormous flexibility both in its repertoire and in its musicians.
