OPTIMUM IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SUSTAINABLE UTILISATION OF THE MEDICINAL
AND MINERAL SPRINGS
For the long-term protection of the valuable medicinal and mineral water springs of Bad Brückenau State Spa, a protective belt was defined around all areas close to the springs, in the sense of a medicinal spring protection area.
It comprises wide areas and, among other things, only permits specific activities which do not affect the sustainability and usability of the waters (for example no motorised traffic, no parking facilities). It functions as a natural buffer, filter and protective mechanism for the springs. In order to preserve the enormous significance of the medicinal and mineral springs in the long term, quality assurance measures are carried out every month by an independent balneological institute. In the course of these, all relevant parameters are determined, evaluated and compared. The requirements are geared, among other things, to the ordinance on drinking water, mineral water and table water, as well as the definitions for spas and health resorts as laid down by the German Spa Association. Together with institutes and the water authorities, a specific withdrawal value was defined for each spring on the basis of the fill values of the springs in order to guarantee long-term utilisation. All of these comprehensive protective measures and examination values lead to the permanently uniform quality of the medicinal and mineral springs, not only today but in the future as well.
